PES Outdoor is sustainable & recyclable

Let’s not beat around the bush: PVC is still the most preferred banner material. That is no surprise. The material is inexpensive, hard-wearing and water-repellent. But there is also a drawback: PVC is difficult to recycle.

That is why we recently added PES Outdoor to our range. This is a water-repellent, PVC-free banner material for outdoor advertising. Thus, PES Outdoor is OEKO-TEX® certified and meets all REACH requirements. This means, among other things, that less environmentally harmful substances are released during the production process.

Also nice to know: PES Outdoor is made of 100% polyester and therefore easier to recycle.

Easy and cheap to transport

PES Outdoor is not only recyclable: it is also foldable. Because we sublimate PES Outdoor, the ink soaks into the fabric instead of settling on it as with printing techniques we use for PVC. As a result, you can fold PES Outdoor without the inks ‘breaking’. And that is good news for transport, as long tubes of cloth are now a thing of the past.

Also, at 280 grams per square metre, PES Outdoor is considerably lighter than a banner material like Frontlit. This makes nature happy because compact and light shipping is more durable. And cheaper. So your wallet is happy too.

We print PES Outdoor nice and local

Speaking of sustainability: We print PES Outdoor nice and local, at Print.com Productions in Oss, The Netherlands. To do so, we use recyclable HP ink cartridges and print heads. An HP Stitch S1000 applies environmentally friendly, water-based ink to the canvas, which we heat up for perfect adhesion. We can then cut PES Outdoor cleanly or finish it with a hem, rings or a flat sinew.

High colour intensity 

PES Outdoor is the greenest banner material in our range. And when we say green, we also mean intense green. Because we produce PES Outdoor on a sublimation printer, unlike PVC, the colours are much more intense than you are used to with PVC banners. In addition, PES Outdoor absorbs sunlight instead of reflecting it. And thanks to the matt finish, your print is always clearly visible.

Good to know: does your PES Outdoor banner hang outside in full sun? Then the colours may start to fade after six months.

Clean in no time 

Another advantage of PES Outdoor: the material has a water- and dirt-repellent finish. This makes it ideal for (drum roll)… outdoor use. You stand there and look at it: dirt rolls off the fabric by itself. Of course, with time, some dirt can stick around. Want to get your banners, picnic rugs or banners from PES Outdoor spick and span again? Warm water and a fibre cloth will wipe off any remaining dirt in no time.

PVC vs PES Outdoor

Is this a resounding no to PVC? Meh… It’s not that simple. PVC has a long lifespan, is waterproof, corrosion-resistant and does not wear out quickly. For certain applications, these properties of PVC are essential and PVC is indeed a sustainable choice. Think of pipes, tubes and gutters for hydraulic, electrical and ventilation systems in buildings. These really do need to be resistant to corrosion and wear. But for outdoor banner material, PES Outdoor is the most durable choice.
